  1. (617) 315-8763 - I got a text "Hello, hope you are doing great today? kindly get back to me with details if this [Exact Listing Title] is available. Tom." (Exact listing title used in text and bad grammar...1ST SCAM SIGN)

He said he is unavailable at the moment (physically) due to volume of jobs he's handling (the fact that he can't meet in person...2ND SCAM SIGN) Therefore he will instruct his secretary to mail out payment to me via USPS. He needs my address to mail the check and a mover is going to come pick up my items.

I didn't let him go any further and called him a scammer and told him I am reporting him as I have looked into this and he is trying to mail me a fraudulent check and "accidentally" mail me a check over what he owes and ask me to wire the rest and keep some for my troubles. By the time the bank finds out, the money is long gone!!!

Here are the other scammers numbers:

I called paypal and they said the scammer would send you a fake, but realistic, paypal receipt showing the money was there, then pick up the item or ask for a refund on some excuse. The way to stop it is to log on to your pp account and be sure the money is actually there.

I responded to the first email, from my gmail account, with my name, city (but not address) of residence, and phone number. I used to have to give out my name, city, and phone number regularly to the general public as part of my job, so that info should already be easy to find.

The emails all come from different addresses in the format ####@live.com, where the #'s are some random combination of letters and numbers.

When I told her it was she said she would send me a certified check and add $50 extra if I held it for her. She said she would cover the shipping cost and she wouldn't have it moved until the check cleared. She never asked anything about the car. When I asked her if she needed to know anything about the car or wanted to look at it she said "what is the condition". I told her everything that was wrong with it and she said "Well get back to me with your info (first and last name, street address, city and state) to mail the check. I haven't answered her yet. 38. Hi!

I post ads regularly on numerous classifieds and I've been very good at it for a long time.

But over the last year or so with all the changes Craigslist has made I was really struggling with the "Gran Daddy of 'em all"

But it all got turned around when a good friend of mine introduced me to this cutting edge method to conquer frequent flagging and ghosting on Craigslist.

I'm so glad I listened to her. Now I have my Craigslist posting mojo back! My ads are mostly all live and the leads are flowing in again.

    Ask me how!

  39. I got screwed in a rental by 2 names: Rosemarie Alston and Mark Adams. alston.rosemarie@gmail.com and markadams213@gmail.com. Tried to rent an apartment from them in San Francisco. They would only accept a wire transfer, after hours of dealing with applications, emails, etc, tried to schedule an appointment to meet Rosemarie before the wire transfer was transmitted and she freaked out and canceled. When I asked to speak with her on the phone, she said she was in NYC and could not access a phone... very suspicious. Fortunately, I canceled the wire transfer that I scheduled. Unfortunately, I think that someone has stolen the identity of Mark Adams and uses a bogus email to pretend that they are him. BEWARE of Wire FRAUD!

She was going to buy my item, but couldn't talk on the phone, since she was deaf and all phone messages would go to text. She said her husband would send a check via fed ex, which they did, it was for twice the asking price of my item and I was to deposit the check and wire the extra to the mover.

Never believe anyone who wants you to wire money. That is a dead giveaway. Also, it was obvious they were not interested in the merchandise as there was no questions asked, and no dickering. Then to just send someone $1550, and expect them to be honest enough pass it on, is a little suspicious.

  69. I've been dealing with a person by the name of "Asley Nurse" who is apparently the same person others have mentioned here. She wanted to purchase an item from me on craigslist for $50 more than I asked so that I would hold on to it for her while she went into the hospital for some unnamed treatment.

    Her e-mail is asleynurse12@gmail.com

The transaction has not made any progress in about a month, other than her continuing to assure me she had sent a certified check, probably with more money than she intended because she accidentally included the amount for the shippers in the pay field. When I asked for an address to send her the excess money back, she never responded. I've asked for phone numbers, etc. - nothing.

Wasted a lot of my time until I decided to google the name.

  85. Received the following scam email in February. Just found this site today:

"Hello there,,i can't call you because i don't have your phone number. what is the actual amount for it?,I can meet with you on Monday or Tuesday noon if convenient with you.If you call or text me we can set up a time. get back to @ arnoldbruce75@gmail.com."

Note that this was a man who said he'd purchase a wedding dress, sight unseen for four figures. WHO buys a wedding dress without asking the size, condition, etc. especially a man! In follow up emails, he said he'd pay extra for me to take down the post. After having a little fun with him, he went away.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Add Carl Davids to the list. Here's one I got February 14th. Again, a man buying a wedding dress?! At least email me under a female name!

"Hi.I want the dress for my sisters wedding this month.I will be paying your asking price, can i pay an extra $50 just for you to hold the dress for me till you get your money because i am paying through Bank certified cashier check.we just move to NY cos of my new job as a structural engineer, don't worry about the shipping cos it would be handled by me.Please let me know if my offer is accepted asap.(717) 489-6303.

    Thanks"

    ReplyDelete
  87. And yet another man who wanted to buy my wedding dress. Tom Hartford sent this on February 5. When I told him that I needed cash due to the fact that there are so many scammers out there, I never heard from him again.

"Thanks once again for the mail....I'd like to do a bank to bank transfer, check or prolly meet you in person and pay you by cash, but the nature of my job and current Location wouldn't permit me to do and so I have suggested PayPal as the only means of payment cos I don't have access to online banking, but I have my personal bank account being linked with my PayPal account under my email, so I am only able to transfer money from my account through PayPal. I'd greatly appreciate if my offer is considered. Will appreciate your understanding & co-operation Though, I'm kind of new to buying online as well but,I I've have been using PayPal & understanding perfectly how it works for the pas seven years now and never had problem with them. I wish to inform you PayPal is the best government approved on-line form of payment which protects its customers, its reliable, safe & easy to use PayPal, I will advice you log on to their website AT www.paypal.com to setup an account. Moreover, I think it should be a 3-5 mins registration process. Once you're done with the set up, you can get back to me with the details needed to transfer payment into your PayPal account, i.e (your full name, PayPal e-mail address along with your home address), so I can proceed with the payment as soon as possible.

    Thanks,
    Tom A. Hartford."

  89. Avoid an email from a Mike Adinoife. Phone number 530-264-5147. Wanted to send cashier check for over the amount and for me to send the rest to someone.... He mailed check from New York. Phone number is California and wanted the remainder sent to someone in Fort Wayne Indiana by the name of Teresa Trendle. Would not accept no for an answer that I would not sell him the item bc he doesn't hold appropriate certifications, and sent check anyway. We refused to accept and sent it back in the mail.

  94. I have one to as for y'all. (forgive my southern draw. In a Texas boy born and raised!) I responded to an ad for a Dodge Dakota pickup, for $950. That price is nothing to take notice of because there are a lot of Dakota's out there for that kind of money. It looked like a nice clean truck. The,as said it ran great and drove good. The ad read as if a real person wrote it. The pictures showed a nice clean 2000 Dodge Dakota. I admit I was actually getting excited. I have bough vehicles of similar quality for around this, same price and sometimes cheaper. I like to think of myself as the king of sub $1000 cars, because none of my last 4 vehicles have been over $1000 yet I got at least a years use our of them if not more sometimes. All of them i found on craigslist. Anyway i,responded to the phone number in the ad last nigh,at around 9:30p. I waited for a response but i,figured maybe I tested, them too late. I woke up,this morning to a text and this is exactly what it said. I copy and pasted This,is here. Oh and forgive my idiotic phone. It likes to ad freakin commas after almost every word I type out!

I posted the ad for my sister, please contact: susan628@zoho.com about the 2003 Dodge Dakota

I found it off that he didn't give,me a number to respond too and I have gotten similar email address before when I respond to ads. Just wanted y'all to know about another scammer.

Oh and in,response to the comments about the fake checks for the,"personal assistant" jobs, my best friends wife did that, and received a check. They weren't aware it was a,car check, because it looked legit. They took it to a bank and the teller looked it,over and actually, cashed it. They, got the, money. Over $3,000 and spent about $1100 before they were contacted by the FBI. Turns out, the, checked they cashed was real but it came from an account, that was under investigation for money laundering. My friend was made to pay the $1100 back or he,faced felony charges...i,was scared for,my,friend.

  95. Again I apologise for my phone. It makes me sound dumb. It,corrects most words I type and i don't notice bc I'm just typing fast. And I have no clue why it adds Damn commas after almost every word! Anyone have experience with the LG G VISTA(G3)?

  96. Got a reply off craigslist for my pitbull puppy ad. said his name was James Van and said he worked at sea as a oceanographer. Due to this I would not be able to call or come see the pup. Or do the pick up myself or pay via cash. I only have access to texting so I will have to pay via check. so after the check has beeen cashed by you. I will have my vet come for the pickup at your location. I will add $50 to it for holding it for me. Asked for full name. Asked him: Do you know which one you want? My name is so and so told em my name. said they need to stay with their mom for 8 weeks. He replied: All I want you to know is that when the check gets to you and has cleared in your accoount, A vet will come asap to pick up the puppy. So I would like you to get back with me your asking price full name and address to proceed with payment. I said: Asking price is $500 Gave my name and address like a dumbass. Then asked for the name of the vet that will be picking up the puppy. He Replied: Ok,I got it, The payment will be mailed to you asap keep me posted when you get the payment ok? I said: Ok you know this doesn't sound right you willing to send $500 without even looking at the puppies to see which one you want right? And you did'nt give me your vets name. So with that being said dont send check. Still No Reponce! Should I be concerned him having my first and last name with full address?

  107. Recieved text today from a (347) 980-5390 in reference to a car I listed for sale about an hour earlier.

1st text asked if I still had available for sale (copy paste header of ad)

I replied with a simple yes.

2nd text had absolutely nothing to do with the car. Just saying they will have their bank prepare a check and a shipping company will be arranged to pick up the item. They need my name and address to send the check via USPS. Not sure what they'll get with that aside from possibly raiding my physical mailbox or having mail rerouted to whatever address hoping to get pre-approved credit card shit.

I don't have the time to make this entertaining. I responded with a simple "piss off." I have better things to occupy my time. The number is probably fake.
